Day 70: Caffeine Victory

Goal 32: Today I am celebrating thirty days without caffeine. I will begin some occasional use when out with friends or at a party (coffee here, diet coke there); however, I am confident that I no longer want to feel ‘addicted’ to this drug and it will no longer be a part of my daily life. I consider this goal completed.

Day 54: Mission Accomplished!

Goal 32: Fourteen Days without caffeine does not sound like a big victory until you realize that this is the longest I’ve gone without caffeine since I turned 18! I am very happy that I no longer feel I ‘need’ a soda or coffee on a daily base. Mission Accomplished! Moving forward, I will probably have a coffee now and then or a soda while out to eat, but I do not not plan to keep any pop in my fridge moving forward. I feel better in the morning and all day long now too. I will consider this goal 100% completed after the behavior has been established for 30 days.

Day 42: Caffeine Withdrawal

Goal 32: I finally understand the difficulty of giving up a controlled substance and why smokers and other addicts have such a hard time stopping their behavior. 

I have had a migraine and reall bad muscle aches for the past 24 hours. This has been compounded by a feeling of depression and I ended up laying in bed several times today feeling miserable. Also, I am having racing thoughts (this is a first) and am deeply craving a Pepsi. Yet, I have a stronger will and will reject the impulse to go to the store and buy a soda.

Day 40: No Caffeine for 14 Days

Goal 32: When I first started working within IT at an investment firm, I got in the habit of working many crazy hours and drinking lots of Diet Mountain Dew and Coffee to stay alert. Years later, I find myself drinking the equivalent of 2-liter of soda or a few pots of coffee every single day. I realized this week that I am a caffeine junky and this must end now. Starting today, I am quitting my caffeine habit cold Turkey today and plan to drink no soda, coffee, or black tea while detoxifying myself. After these two weeks, I will still have an occasional soda or coffee, but it will not be required to wake up or stay alert anymore.
